Shears and Gore podium at Lime Rock.
Sunday, 19 July 2009

Charlie Shears (Houston, TX) and Jonathan Gore (Franklin, TN) have both scored a podium a piece in IMSA Lites at Lime Rock Park for the North East Grand Prix.

It was a dream return for Charlie after missing the last two rounds of the Championship. Jonathan looked set to make it two podiums for the weekend, but while coming second in Round 8, crashed trying to navigate around fellow Comprent teammate David Ducote (New Orleans, LA). Tom Drewer (Adelaide, AUS) had a “frustrating” weekend but continued to collect points to move to 5th in the Championship standings.

The weekend consistently saw Comprent drivers at the pointy end of the field over Round’s 7 & 8 of the 2009 IMSA Lites Championship presented by Frisby Performance Tire. Comprent drivers filled three of the top five spots in Round 7 with Jonathan finishing third, Charlie, fourth and Australian Tom Drewer fifth.

The trio battled it out, wheel to wheel for the majority of the race, each putting in sterling drives. Jonathan and Tom came through the pack from 13th and 10th respectively, Tom passing 6th placed starter Charlie before the first corner. However, it was Gore, in his Foretravel Motorcoach car, who got the best of both of them to claim his second podium (3rd) of the season.

Comprent owner, Kevin Klopfer was thrilled with the Round 7 result.

“Congratulations to Jonathan, that was an inspired drive from thirteenth on the grid, and the fastest lap of the race and pole for race two. Not a bad effort from Tom either considering he started tenth.

That was pretty hairy for a while. I didn’t think I was going to be able to feed my children this week. Those three, Gore, Sheers and Drewer, were really racing hard. They we’re racing with a lot of respect for each other, but weren’t prepared to give an inch. They must have all touched going into Turn 1 more than twice. What a race.”

Fellow Comprent drivers, Wayne and David Ducote (New Orleans, LA) finished 11th and 12th respectively in their red, black and white Park1 sponsored machines.

Jonathan looked set to improve on his third place in Round 8 after starting from the pole, but disaster struck mid-way through the race as he tried to lap team-mate David Ducote at the Up-Hill Chicane.

Comprent all fired-up for Lime Rock.
Thursday, 16 July 2009

Athens, Georgia based Comprent Motor Sport will field it’s complete five car IMSA Lites 1 line-up at this week’s American Le Mans Series North East Grand Prix, Connecticut.

Returning to the Comprent squad for Lime Rock is the matching red white and black Park1 cars of father and son duo David and Wayne Ducote (New Orleans, LA), and Charlie Shears (Houston, TX), who steps back into his US Builders’ car for his first outing since Sebring.

It’s a welcome return for Charlie, who had to put his Championship hopes on hold to recover from a minor yet potentially life threatening blood clot. Although cleared to race at last month’s New Jersey race, Charlie delayed his return to be present for the birth of his new baby boy.

“I probably shouldn’t say this, but not racing at New Jersey was a tough decision to make,” said Charlie with a smile.

"I love racing IMSA Lites and I’m ecstatic to be finally making my return to the championship. Sitting out the last couple of months have been extremely frustrating, but I guess my son‘s birth does only happen once. I can’t wait to mix it up with Tom and Jonathan. I conducted a short test in the car at Texas World Speedway the other week and was immediately back in the groove. It looks like the team, and especially those two, have made quite a progression.

The entire team should be up the pointy end of the grid at Lime Rock.”

Comprent and Drewer return to the top of the time sheets in New Jersey.
Tuesday, 16 June 2009
Comprent Motor Sports driver Tom Drewer (Adelaide, AUS) piloted his Daily Planet sponsored Élan DP-02 to the fastest Lites 1 lap of weekend at New Jersey Motorsport Park’s Mazda Formula X event.

The young Australian, who won the 2008 IMSA Lites 2 Championship, proved he can match and beat the best of the Lites 1 category on Sunday as he set a new Qualifying Track Record around the 2.17 mile road course with a time unmatched for the weekend of 1 minute 15.327 seconds.

The pole position was Drewer’s first for the year and his first in the Lites 1 category, since making the setup from Lites 2. It was also Comprent Motor Sport’s first time on top of the IMSA Lites time sheets since last November when Jonathan Goring took pole at Laguna Seca and went on to claim both the 2008 IMSA Lites 1 Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships for Comprent.
